It has been carefully developed to provide a balance of sports, while considering potential athlete participation levels, spectator interest and international broadcast appeal.

The sports program has been developed in consultation with the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA), national and international sporting bodies and anticipated Commonwealth Games broadcasters. The sports program is being refined in consultation with the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and the International Sport Federations.
