Explore Queensland on earth, land and sea this month with the hottest new experiences guaranteed to warm up winter. From a $100 million rejuvenation in the Whitsundays to an adventure through the Outback's most remote and iconic locations and a seaside restaurant with a focus on sustainability, there are new reasons to explore Queensland this August.

Say g'Hayman

The Whitsunday Islands will welcome a new era of luxury in 2019 that will see InterContinental Hotels Group take over management of Hayman Island, rebranding to Hayman Island, by InterContinental. Nestled at the northernmost point of the Whitsunday archipelago, the 166-room hotel will undergo a $100 million refurbishment after the effects of Cyclone Debbie in 2017. In addition to the resort, Malaysia's Mulpha Group have commissioned Singapore-based architect Kerry Hill and ­interior designer to the stars ­Blainey North to develop 21 houses on Hayman Island complete with butler's pantries, private pools, four bedrooms and four ensuite bathrooms priced at about $10 million each.

Get outta town

Outback Queensland is remote and iconic and can be seen by air and land on a three-day adventure with Seair Touring. Led by ecological crusader and Lady Elliot Island owner Peter Gash, travel in a private plane to the townships, cattle stations and jaw-dropping landscapes of the Outback. Grab a pie from the iconic Birdsville Bakery and enjoy it atop Big Red, see the expanse of Lake Eyre, cruise on the Cooper Creek at Innamincka and drop into Charlotte Plains Cattle Station. Outback Air tours depart from Brisbane and the Gold Coast and are limited to 12 people, exclusively available three times in 2018 (10 August, 22 September, 5 October) and cost $2985pp.

Walk on the wild side

Be one of the first to follow in the paw-prints of the newest generation of cubs at Dreamworld's Tiger Island. Get up close and personal with the inquisitive baby cubs and learn about the plight of wild tigers from Dreamworld's experienced handlers while walking with them around the park before opening hours. With less than 4,000 tigers left in the wild, Dreamworld is on a mission to educate visitors on the importance of raising money to fund anti-poaching teams globally through the Tiger Cub Walks program. The experience is available weekly with prices starting from $139pp.

Burleigh Heads has another mouth-watering addition to its foodie portfolio. Sydney chef Alex Munoz Labart has opened a 60-seat eatery that brings a touch of European sophistication to the Gold Coast dining scene. Restaurant Labart focuses on sustainability and simplicity using local fresh ingredients and bespoke Marloe Marloe tableware. Mains include creations like seared mulloway with peas, dill and horseradish, while dishes like the barbecued flank steak with creamy egg yolk and charred-onion sauce kick the charcoal grill into action. To finish? Yoghurt sorbet with glazed pear, star anise and milk skin. Labart is open Tuesday to Sunday in the heart of Burleigh Heads on West St.

Forget windowless conference rooms and restless attendees. Explore the River Cycle on wheels with Brisbane by Bicycle on a twilight tour from Southbank Parklands to Hamilton's iconic Eat Street Markets.
